After launch, coverage continues for the trans-lunar injection burn and initial checkout. The outbound journey to the Moon takes approximately four days, with the closest lunar approach on Day 5. Free Public Viewing Spots

If official tickets are sold out, several public areas along the Space Coast offer excellent free viewing:

  • Playalinda Beach (Canaveral National Seashore) — The closest public viewing point, approximately 5 miles from Pad 39B. Arrive early; the beach closes when capacity is reached, often hours before launch.
  • Jetty Park (Port Canaveral) — About 12 miles from the pad. Offers beach and pier viewing with food vendors nearby.
  • Max Brewer Bridge (Titusville) — A popular viewing spot approximately 12 miles from the pad, along the Indian River.
  • Space View Park (Titusville) — A dedicated launch viewing park with bleachers and a clear sightline to Pad 39B.

Pro tips for in-person viewing: Arrive at least 4-5 hours early for prime spots. Bring sunscreen, water, a portable chair, binoculars, and a camera with at least 200mm zoom. A portable radio or phone with a NASA TV audio feed enhances the experience enormously — you will hear the countdown commentary synchronized with what you see.

What to Look For During the Mission

Beyond the spectacle of launch, several mission events are worth watching for:
