Live view

Live view, not yet a published edition: this period's edition is scheduled for 2025-07-30. Until then these figures are recomputed from current data on every visit and should not be cited as the edition.

Back-computed edition

This period closed before the release began publishing on a calendar. The figures are computed from the same tables, but this is a back-calculation rather than what we would have published at the time. Scheduled editions begin with 2026-Q3.

Space-coded federal awards won, by company, Q1 2025

Tracked companies ranked by the dollars obligated to date on space-coded awards they WON in the quarter (base obligation date in the quarter), with the agency that gave the most and how much rides on their single largest award. Money added to older contracts is not counted, so a prime with long-running programmes reads low here.

Space-coded federal awards won, by company, trailing twelve months

The same ranking over awards won in the four quarters ending with this one. Awards are lumpy (one large award can own a quarter), so this is the stabler table. It measures new space work won, not space revenue: a prime funded through modifications to contracts awarded years ago (for example Lockheed Martin) reads far below its space business.

"First" means first in our records over a window beginning 2018-10-01, not first ever. A company that last won space work before that window reads as new here, and that is a limit of the window, not a finding. Absence from the previous 4 quarters alone is not enough: the whole of our history before this quarter is checked.

Methodology

Every figure is a count, a sum, a share, a maximum or a Herfindahl index over the FederalAward table, which is built from USAspending.gov: the US Treasury’s public record of federal spending. No estimate, model or projection is used anywhere in this release, and every stored award carries the usaspending.gov URL it was read from.
Every dollar figure is the SPACE-CODED subset: awards the government itself codes as space work through the award’s own product/service code (space vehicles, space R&D, space transportation and launch) or industry code (space research and technology, satellite telecommunications). Several tracked companies are diversified primes whose federal business is mostly aircraft, missiles and services, and reporting their whole federal book as space would be arithmetically correct and completely misleading. The all-federal figure is published beside the space figure, never instead of it.
The space-coded flag deliberately excludes the "guided missile and space vehicle manufacturing" industry codes, which conflate tactical missiles with spacecraft. Space work under those codes almost always carries a space product/service code as well, so the loss is small, but every space figure here is a conservative floor rather than a ceiling.

What this edition can and cannot see

Coverage limits travel with the numbers, here and in every export of them.

This edition sees 2,744 attributed federal awards obligated inside the quarter, of which 25 are coded as space work. Space-coded obligations total $187M, against $14.5B of federal obligations of every kind to the same companies.
Every dollar figure on this page is the SPACE-CODED subset: awards the government itself codes as space work through the award’s own product/service code (space vehicles, space R&D, space transportation and launch) or its industry code (space research and technology, satellite telecommunications). That flag is set membership over two coded fields on the government record: never a keyword search, a judgement of ours, or a model.
The space-coded flag deliberately EXCLUDES the "guided missile and space vehicle manufacturing" industry codes, which conflate tactical missiles with spacecraft. Space work under those codes almost always carries a space product/service code as well, so the loss is small, but it means every space figure here is a conservative floor rather than a ceiling.
The all-federal table is published beside the space tables on purpose. For a diversified prime, the all-federal figure is its ENTIRE government book (aircraft, missiles, ships, services) and is not a statement about its space business.

Computed from SpaceNexus data - no model is involved in producing a release

Every figure here is arithmetic over our own rows (counts, sums, deltas and rankings), and the page and its export are built by the same code, so they cannot disagree. How this edition is computed

Computed over 25 space-coded awards of the 2,744 attributed federal awards recorded in the quarter. Every row also carries its all-federal total and space share in the export.

Showing the first 10 of 17 rows. 7 more in this table, plus every column the display leaves out.

The complete row set and its CSV and JSON exports are part of a SpaceNexus Research seat. The figures above are computed from exactly the same rows, so the summary and the export can never disagree. What a Research seat covers.

Computed over 177 space-coded awards obligated between 2024-04-01 and 2025-03-31. Trailing-twelve-month dollars: $5.04B.

Showing the first 10 of 48 rows. 38 more in this table, plus every column the display leaves out.

Shares are of the space-coded dollars in this edition, not of the agency’s whole budget. NASA obligated far more to organisations we do not track than to those we do.

For a diversified prime this row is aircraft, missiles, ships and services as well as space. It is published so the space figure can be read in context, never as a measure of space business.

Showing the first 10 of 57 rows. 47 more in this table, plus every column the display leaves out.

Federal obligations are revenue the company has to earn by delivering; a funding round is capital it sold equity for. Comparing them says something about a company’s mix of customers and backers and nothing about its profitability. Rounds with an undisclosed amount contribute $0.

The space-coded column is the government’s own product/service or industry code for the award, not our reading of it; the code and its official description travel with every row in the export. Rows marked "no" under counts-toward-totals are indefinite-delivery vehicles, listed for the contract-vehicle intelligence they carry and excluded from every dollar figure.

Showing the first 10 of 2,744 rows. 2734 more in this table, plus every column the display leaves out.

Only PRIME awards are counted. A company working as a subcontractor on another firm’s prime contract does not appear, because USAspending’s subaward file is reported voluntarily and incompletely and we will not mix the two.

Amounts are the OBLIGATED total USAspending reports on the award (money actually placed on contract), not an announced ceiling. A multi-year IDIQ with a headline value appears only as the orders placed against it.

Indefinite-delivery vehicles are stored and listed but contribute $0 to every dollar figure: their reported value is the sum of the orders under them, and those orders are counted individually, so counting both would count the same money twice.

An award is attributed to the quarter its BASE OBLIGATION date falls in, in UTC: the date the award was originally made. A modification that adds money updates the existing award in place rather than creating a second row, so this release measures awards WON in the quarter, not dollars flowing in the quarter. Those are different questions and the page says which one it answers. For a large prime this matters most: long-running space programmes awarded years ago (navigation and missile-warning satellites, crew vehicles) are funded through modifications and do not appear as new awards, so a prime’s figure here is new space work won in the window, never its space revenue.

A recipient is attributed to a tracked company only on an identifier or a corroborated name: its Unique Entity ID is one the company holds; or the government’s spelling of the recipient already appears on another award matched to the company by that identifier; or a distinctive company name matches AND the government codes the award itself as space work. A name alone never attributes an award, a short or common company name (Orbital, Latitude, Astra) needs an identifier, nothing fuzzy is accepted, a recipient that would match two companies is attributed to neither, and every stored row records the government’s spelling of the recipient alongside the ground it was attributed on.

Concentration bands are the one judgement in this release and are fixed: a company whose largest single award is 90% or more of its federal total is called single-award dependent, 60% or more heavily concentrated, 35% or more concentrated, and below that spread. The underlying percentage is published beside the band.

The Department of Defense publishes its contract actions to USAspending 90 days after the action date. An edition is therefore published only 120 days after its quarter ends (the 90-day delay plus one full 30-day refresh of our award sweep), and frozen when it is published. Before that the quarter is shown only as a provisional live view, with the agency split withheld, because a quarter without its defense records reads as if NASA were nearly the only buyer.

Classified and unacknowledged procurement is not published on USAspending at all. For a company whose federal business is largely classified, every figure here is a floor of unknown depth.

Prime awards only, and only those we could attribute to a tracked company with high confidence. Subawards are not counted: a company working as a subcontractor on somebody else’s prime contract does not appear here at all.

Amounts are what USAspending reports as OBLIGATED on the award (money actually put on contract), not an announced ceiling or a potential maximum. A ten-year IDIQ worth a headline billion shows up here only as the orders placed against it.

Indefinite-delivery vehicles are stored and listed, but contribute $0 to every dollar figure. Their reported value is the sum of the orders placed under them, and those orders are counted individually, so counting both would count the same money twice.

We searched 478 of 532 tracked companies against USAspending; 41 were deliberately not searched by name because their name is too generic to match safely and we hold no Unique Entity ID for them. A company we did not search cannot appear, whatever it won.

Matching is precision-first and deliberately misses things. An award is attributed only on the recipient’s Unique Entity ID, on a spelling of the recipient already tied to the company by that identifier, or on a distinctive company name when the government codes the award itself as space work; a name alone never attributes an award, and a short or common name needs an identifier. A federal arm whose name does not begin with the parent’s name (a joint venture, or a subsidiary trading under an unrelated brand) is not attributed to the parent. Every attributed row records the government’s spelling of the recipient and the ground it was attributed on.

19 company(ies) returned more awards than one sweep stores (Boeing, Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI International, Collins Aerospace, Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Elbit Systems, General Dynamics, Honeywell Aerospace, and others). For those, the largest awards by obligated amount are held and every total is a floor.

Our award window begins 2018-10-01. Awards obligated before that date are not in our records, and "first federal award" below means first in OUR records, not first ever.

An award is attributed to the quarter its BASE OBLIGATION date falls in: the date the award was originally made. A modification that adds money to an existing award updates that award’s amount in place; it does not appear as new activity in the quarter of the modification. This release therefore measures awards WON in the quarter, not dollars flowing in the quarter, and those are different questions.

The Department of Defense publishes its contract actions to USAspending 90 days after the action date, so a quarter is incomplete for at least 90 days after it ends. This release publishes and freezes an edition only once the quarter is complete (the 90-day delay plus one 30-day refresh of our award sweep); before that the quarter is shown only as a labelled provisional view.

Some defense space work cannot be identified from the government’s codes. Space Force and Space Development Agency research is coded as national-defense R&D, beside missiles and electronic warfare, and placed through the Department of the Air Force; production under the missile-and-space-vehicle industry codes is mostly guided missiles. Neither is counted as space here, so defense space figures are a floor.

Classified and unacknowledged procurement does not appear on USAspending at all. For a company whose federal business is largely classified, the figures here are a floor of unknown depth and should not be read as its federal revenue.

Every figure on this page is a count, a sum, a share, a maximum or a Herfindahl index over our own rows. Nothing is model-generated, estimated or projected, and every row carries the usaspending.gov URL it was read from.
