Senior Network and IP Engineer

Job description

The world still has coverage blind spots. You could help eliminate them at Skylo.   Skylo has pioneered a standards-based approach to satellite connectivity. We connect smartphones and IoT devices directly to satellites. No special hardware, no entirely new networks. Just billions of existing devices, suddenly reachable anywhere on Earth. We're not building toward this future. We're already in it.   Our direct-to-device service is live on millions of activated devices across five continents, covering more than 72 million square kilometers, in partnership with leading satellite operators, mobile network operators, Tier-1 chipset makers, and OEMs worldwide. And we're just getting started.   At the heart of it all is Skylo's commercial NTN vRAN: a 3GPP standards-based, cloud-native platform that seamlessly bridges terrestrial and satellite networks. It's the infrastructure that makes true anywhere, anytime connectivity possible.   When you join Skylo, you'll work at the intersection of three markets reshaping how the world stays connected: mass-market consumer devices, automotive, and industrial IoT. Enabling people outdoors and critical workflows in the world's most remote places.   This is a rare chance to work on technology that matters, at a company that's already proving it works This role is located in Bangalore, India where we are onsite 3 days a week in office. Summary Of How You Will Impact Skylo Skylo is hiring a Senior Network and IP Engineer to help fulfill Skylo’s mission of making satellite connectivity available to all. As part of the Network Design & Planning team in Bangalore, this individual will design, build, and optimise the IP transport that ties Skylo’s network together, from ground stations and satellite gateways through backhaul and data centers to our cloud-native RAN and core in public cloud. Your work will ensure our transport network is resilient, secure, and scalable as Skylo’s commercial direct-to-device service grows across continents. How You Will Contribute - Design and implement IP transport and routing for Skylo’s network, including routers, switches, and firewalls across ground stations, data centers, and cloud. - Design and operate routing architectures using BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, and MPLS (L3VPN/L2VPN, segment routing), including routing policy, traffic engineering, and redundancy (VRRP, BFD, ECMP). - Design and deliver backhaul connectivity from ground stations and satellite gateways to Skylo’s cloud and data center sites, including carrier circuits, IPsec/SD-WAN overlays, and diverse-path resilience. - Design cloud networking in AWS and GCP (VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect / Cloud Interconnect, VPN) and hybrid connectivity to on-prem sites. - Define IP addressing, subnetting, VLAN, VRF, and QoS designs for RAN, core, management, and interconnect traffic. - Support interconnects with MNO and roaming partners (IPX/GRX, peering, private interconnects) in collaboration with core network engineers. - Implement network security controls, including segmentation, ACLs, firewall policy, and DDoS protection, together with the Security team. - Automate network configuration and validation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python, and NetBox. - Monitor transport performance (latency, jitter, loss, utilisation), perform capacity planning, and drive improvements to availability and scalability. - Troubleshoot complex network issues and support Operations with root cause analysis and escalations. - Document network architecture, configurations, and procedures, and conduct proof-of-solutions to validate technical proposals. What We Look For - 6+ years of experience in IP network engineering, ideally within a telecom operator, service provider, or large-scale cloud/data center environment. - Strong hands-on experience with BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, and MPLS, including routing policy design and troubleshooting. - Hands-on experience with TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, network tunnelling (GRE, IPsec, VXLAN), and redundancy protocols (VRRP, BFD, LAG/LACP). - Experience configuring and optimising carrier-grade routers, switches, and firewalls (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Arista, Palo Alto, Fortinet). - Experience with public cloud networking (AWS VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect; GCP networking) and hybrid connectivity. - Experience designing WAN/backhaul connectivity, including carrier circuits, SD-WAN, and QoS. - Familiarity with network automation and infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform, Python, NetBox). - Familiarity with mobile network transport (RAN backhaul, S1/N2/N3, GTP, IPX/GRX) is a strong plus. - General knowledge of satellite communication over LEO and GEO, and ground station networking, is a plus. - Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. - Industry certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent are preferred.
