Wall Street Is Starting to Price SpaceX Like an AI Company

SpaceX declaring AI ambitions is not news: the company has been repositioning around Starlink-scale compute and connectivity for a while. What changed this week is who's doing the talking: for the first time, the valuation machinery started underwriting the story with numbers.

What's actually new

Three concrete developments, all within days of each other:

• Musk put a figure and a clock on it. Speaking after the company's latest earnings call, he suggested SpaceX could generate $500 billion in annual revenue within roughly two years, not a vision statement, a forecastable claim that analysts can now mark him against.
• The sell side moved. Argus Research upgraded SpaceX-linked shares from Hold to Buy with a $160 price target, explicitly framing the company's AI investment as the winning gamble. That's a research shop putting the AI thesis into a model, not a keynote.
• Asset managers are gaming out structures. ARK Invest revived speculation about a Tesla–SpaceX combination. Musk waved it off, again, but the persistence of the scenario shows how allocators are thinking about where the AI-era value would pool.

The ambition is old. The underwriting is new. Once price targets exist, the narrative stops being Musk's to control alone: every quarter now gets measured against a $500 billion trajectory.

The revenue math still runs through orbit

Whatever the AI framing, the delivery mechanism is the same one flying this week: 29 Starlink satellites launched from Florida, another 24 staged at Vandenberg, industrial-cadence deployment nobody else matches. Launch alone can't produce $500 billion; global connectivity plus the workloads that ride on it is the only path to the number. That's why the reclassification matters: it changes which comparables, multiples, and capital sources apply to the company.

The halo isn't reaching the rest of the launch sector

The same week the market started pricing SpaceX like an AI platform, it priced the mid-tier like a struggling industrial:

• Rocket Lab left its second-quarter earnings facing pointed investor scrutiny over margins: patience with growth-over-profitability in small launch is visibly thinning.
• Firefly Aerospace pushed its Alpha Block 2 debut to the fourth quarter, now expecting just three Alpha flights in 2026.

The bifurcation is the story: capital is treating "space" less and less as one sector. One company gets AI-platform multiples; the rest get asked about gross margin.
