ILC Dover built the spacesuits worn by Apollo astronauts on the Moon and continues developing next-generation EVA suits and inflatable space structures.
ACTIVEILC Dover, part of Ingersoll Rand since June 2024, makes engineered flexible products mainly for biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical and medical device customers, and is a long-time supplier of spacesuits and inflatable structures for the space industry.
Founded in 1947, ILC Dover has been the premier spacesuit manufacturer for NASA for over six decades. The company designed and built the A7L spacesuits worn during the Apollo Moon landings and has continued to produce every NASA spacesuit since, including the Extravehicular Mobility Units (EMUs) used on the Space Shuttle and International Space Station. Beyond spacesuits, ILC Dover develops inflatable habitats, aerodynamic decelerators for planetary entry, and engineered flexible materials for defense and pharmaceutical applications. The company was selected by Axiom Space to develop components for next-generation commercial spacesuits.
Not ranked: No measurable space activity in our data (space-coded federal awards or subcontracts, space revenue in the company’s SEC annual report, an orbital launch, or a space-segment profile: for a defense company or a diversified aerospace group, a subsector naming space work, and for a diversified group a space line cited at $100M or more): scored, but not ranked as a space company.
