Founded in 1969, MDA (originally MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates) has been at the forefront of Canadian space technology for over five decades. The company built the iconic Canadarm, Canadarm2, and Dextre robotics systems that have been essential to Space Shuttle and ISS operations. MDA also developed the RADARSAT series of synthetic aperture radar satellites and is the prime contractor for the RADARSAT Constellation Mission. After being acquired by Maxar in 2017 and then re-established as an independent company in 2020, MDA went public on the TSX in 2021. The company is now building Canadarm3 for the NASA Lunar Gateway station.
