Reflect Orbital deploys orbital mirrors that redirect sunlight onto terrestrial solar farms during early morning and evening, extending their generation window.
ACTIVEReflect Orbital, based in Hawthorne, California, is building a constellation of satellites designed to reflect sunlight down to Earth for large-scale lighting and energy applications. In July 2026 the FCC authorized its Earendil-1 demonstration satellite.
Reflect Orbital is developing a constellation of lightweight orbital mirrors that reflect sunlight onto ground-based solar farms during periods when the sun is below the horizon or at low angles, effectively extending solar generation hours. By bouncing additional sunlight to existing solar infrastructure during dawn, dusk, and potentially nighttime, the company can increase the capacity factor of solar farms without requiring new panel installations. This approach is simpler and less expensive than space-based solar power generation, as it leverages existing terrestrial infrastructure.
