Formed in 2005 from the merger of Snecma and Sagem, Safran has grown into one of the world's largest aerospace suppliers. Through its subsidiary ArianeGroup (a 50/50 joint venture with Airbus), Safran develops and manufactures the cryogenic rocket engines that power Europe's Ariane 5 and Ariane 6 launchers. The Vulcain engine serves as the main stage engine while the re-ignitable Vinci engine powers the upper stage. Beyond space propulsion, Safran is a global leader in aircraft engines through its CFM International joint venture with GE Aviation, producing the best-selling CFM56 and LEAP engine families.
