Virtus Solis is developing modular space solar power satellites that collect energy in GEO and beam it to Earth via microwave, targeting gigawatt-scale delivery.
ACTIVEVirtus Solis, founded in 2019 and headquartered in Troy, Michigan, is developing modular space-based solar power arrays in highly elliptical Molniya orbits that would beam energy to Earth by microwave transmission at 10 GHz.
Virtus Solis Technologies is building a modular space-based solar power (SBSP) system that places large solar arrays in geostationary orbit to continuously harvest sunlight and transmit energy to Earth-based rectennas via microwave beaming. Their modular architecture allows incremental deployment, reducing upfront capital requirements compared to traditional monolithic SBSP concepts. The company aims to deliver clean baseload power at scale, potentially supplying gigawatts of renewable energy without the intermittency issues of terrestrial solar and wind.
