Responsibilities: The Communications and Instruments Division provides leadership in the development and infusion of technologies that enable advanced flight sensors, instruments, and deep space communications. Our expertise spans the entire electromagnetic spectrum—from RF through ultraviolet (UV) — and includes micro-electro-mechanical systems and quantum engineering. We create novel material systems and fabrication techniques that unlock new concepts and mission architectures. We pioneer deep space communication theory, implement advanced communication systems (Earth, planetary surfaces and deep space flight) and develop navigational tracking to understand where we are and how to ensure robust engineering and science data return The Instrument Systems, Microdevices and Sensors Section develops new technologies spanning quantum, micro- and nano-devices that enable advanced flight sensors, instruments, and transition them to flight infusion. We lead and support Payload and Instrument System Engineering and Instrument Integration and Test functions across D36 product lines. We partner with academic institutions and science communities. Instruments supported in our section include, but are not limited to spectrometers, radiometers, magnetometers, microwave radiometers, and Ultraviolet (UV)/Visible (VIS)/Infrared (IR)/Far-IR imagers. The Central Processing & MDL Support Group maintains and improves the Microdevices Laboratory (MDL) institutional facility on site - its operations, facilities and safety infrastructure. MDL is dedicated to the study of micro- and nano-fabrication technique. We are looking for a Maintenance and Operations Engineer II supporting the operation and maintenance of semiconductor facility systems within the MDL facility. You will report to the supervisor of the Central Processing & MDL Support Group. Daily assignments will be managed by a Cognizant Facilities Engineer. Tasks include but are not limited to: Assist with installation, maintenance, and improvement of semiconductor facilities equipment. Support troubleshooting and repair activities with senior engineers and technicians. Order, source, and track facilities parts. Perform daily facility walkthroughs and equipment inspections. Maintain logs and generate reports. Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance activities. Support facility operations and reliability initiatives. Hands-on technical role with significant field work. Perform tasks that require heavy lifting of up to 35 pounds: Change and manage gas cylinders Pump changes and oil removal Perform tasks that may require the following with overtime pay: After-hours support Weekend work Flexible schedules Emergency call-ins Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a degree from a 2-year technical school preferably in mechanical engineering, or similar discipline with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience; Masters in a similar discipline with a minimum of 1 year of related work experience; PhD in a similar discipline with a minimum of 0 year of related work experience. Familiarity with facilities equipment and distribution systems. Ability to use a respirator Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Preferred Skills: Troubleshooting and repair experience with mechanical and facilities equipment. Exposure to: HVAC systems CAD design/layout Electronics wiring High-purity gas piping systems Blueprint reading Experience in industrial, laboratory, or government environments.
