Week in Space Data, every Friday.
Warpspace is developing an optical inter-satellite data relay constellation in MEO, designed to relay data from LEO satellites via laser links and ease ground-station contact bottlenecks.
ACTIVEWarpspace is a University of Tsukuba spin-out founded in 2016 that develops inter-satellite optical (laser) communication. Its planned WarpHub InterSat service would use satellites in medium Earth orbit to relay data from low Earth orbit satellites.
Warpspace was spun out of the University of Tsukuba and focuses on optical (laser) inter-satellite links for data relay. By placing relay satellites in MEO, the system can receive data from LEO satellites and forward it to ground stations with much higher availability than direct LEO-to-ground passes.
