The costs that are not on the price list
- The deployer and integration fee: a CubeSat is not bolted to the rocket, it is loaded into a spring-loaded dispenser that someone has to qualify, test and install.
- Licensing: a radio licence for the downlink (FCC in the US, plus ITU coordination) and a remote-sensing licence if the unit carries a camera.
- Environmental testing: vibration and thermal-vacuum campaigns plus a deployer fit check, usually at a third-party test house.
- Ground station time for the mission lifetime, or a ground-station-as-a-service contract.
- The satellite itself: a 1U bus, payload and software often cost more than the ride.

Does a 1U CubeSat ever get its own launch?
Effectively never. Even the smallest dedicated launcher carries hundreds of kilograms, so a single 1U would be paying for a rocket it uses a fraction of a percent of. Rideshare deployers exist precisely so that 1U-class payloads can share.
How is a 1U slot priced?
