Golden Dome tracker: contract vehicles, awards, funding and schedule

• Executive Order 14186, "The Iron Dome for America", signed January 27, 2025, states as policy that the United States will provide for the common defense "by deploying and maintaining a next-generation missile defense shield", and gave the Secretary of Defense 60 days to submit a reference architecture, requirements and an implementation plan. The order set policy and deadlines; it did not itself fund anything.

• On May 20, 2025 the President said "we have officially selected an architecture" (the architecture was not published), put the cost at "$175 billion total cost of this, when it's completed" (a spoken estimate, not a budget), and named Gen. Michael A. Guetlein "the direct reporting program manager for the Golden Dome". On July 17, 2025 the Senate confirmed his appointment in the grade of general while assigned to a position of importance and responsibility.

• Appropriated: the reconciliation act signed July 4, 2025 (Public Law 119-21, section 20003) appropriated about $24.4 billion for integrated air and missile defense lines, available until September 30, 2029, including $5.6 billion "for development of space-based and boost phase intercept capabilities"; the law does not use the words "Golden Dome". Requested: the Defense Department's FY2026 Mandatory Funding Overview (July 2025) lists $24.859 billion under "Golden Dome" within a $25.559 billion request for section 20003 (request figures, which differ from the enacted line items), and the fiscal 2027 budget request (April 2026) asks for "$17.9 billion for Golden Dome for America". Proposed: the House Appropriations Committee's fiscal 2027 defense bill (H.R. 9495), reported June 26, 2026, would provide $397,971,000 for a "Golden Dome for America Fund"; as of September 27, 2026 its bill-status record shows no action after it was placed on the House calendar that day, so that figure is not law.

• The Congressional Budget Office estimated on May 12, 2026 that a notional national missile defense system with capabilities broadly consistent with the executive order "would cost about $1.2 trillion to develop, deploy, and operate for 20 years" (2026 dollars), with the space-based interceptor layer about 70 percent of acquisition costs. CBO estimated a notional architecture because the Defense Department had not released Golden Dome's objective architecture, so this is not a cost estimate of the actual program.
